Online Social Gambling

In the brick and mortal world, the distinction between casino gambling and social gambling is clear. Casino gambling is a commercial enterprise that takes place at casinos, clubs or other designated places, where the organizer earns money through a house edge or rake and where public participation is largely allowed. Social gambling is gambling at private places, like homes, between friends and family. In social gambling usually, the following rules apply. All the money collected as wagers must be distributed as prizes and nothing can be kept aside even for funding of drinks or meeting costs. No commercial activity like the sale of liquor is allowed where social gambling takes place. What has been a problem is the prevention of illegal “social gambling” and convicting the offenders.

With the proliferation of the Internet, almost every conceivable activity in our real world had been replicated in the cyber world. Commercial gambling at online casinos and poker rooms have been taking place since around 1995. Today most of the online gambling sites are under the same degree of licensing and regulation as their brick and mortar counterparts. Over the last few years, the social networking arena has shown remarkable growth. Gaming has become an important activity at social networking sites. However, until recently these games did not involve gambling, because of legal restrictions imposed. In order to bypass the laws against gambling activities at such sites, the site owners sell virtual money that allows players to gamble online on games like poker. All the big social media sites are lobbying to make online social gambling legal.

In July 2012 the world’s first social gambling games Meetup was held in London at the Verve Bar in Covent Garden. The event had over 100 participants, which included gambling operators, game developers, investors, and casino technology companies. There were two speakers at the MeetUp. The Managing Director of Interaction, Andy Rogers, spoke on the opportunities in this market and the CEO of, Raf Keustermans, spoke on securing finance for a social casino games company. The participants included Gordon Anderson, a consultant in the Mobile & Digital field, and Peter Ward, CEO of Quizzino Ltd, both of whom mooted the idea of a more structured and comprehensive MeetUp.

The response from the participants has led to the announcement of a second Meetup. This will be held on September 12 at the Google Campus building in …

Soft 17s in Blackjack

Blackjack is known for having tons of different variations based on slightly different rule sets. One of the things that you have to learn to do if you want to be an exceptionally strong blackjack player is use these changes in rules to play better. One small change in the rules of the game can lead to some major differences in strategy, and what we want to do here is show you how to work with one of the most common rule changes in the game: the dealer standing or hitting on a soft 17.

Standard play is for the dealer to stand on soft 17. However, if the dealer hits on a soft 17, then you get a number of options to make atypical plays that can increase your payout rate. One of the first places to look is surrendering with hard hands. Specifically, you’re going to want to surrender slightly more often when you’re facing an ace. This can mean that surrendering with a hard 15 or even a hard 17 against an ace can be correct, and this is especially true in multi-deck games because of the lack of influence from card removal.

Another place to look is when you have soft hands against a weak dealer card. Essentially, this will increase your advantage in these scenarios because the dealer will be slightly more likely to hit and run into a busting scenario or a scenario with a weak hand that’s easy to go bust. Compared to normal strategy, there are two differences that you’ll want to account for. First, you’ll want to always double with a soft 18 against any two through six which is atypical since you usually stand against a two. Second, you’ll want to double a soft 19 if and only if you are facing a six.

Finally we have one more specific change that you’ll want to make, and this is probably the difference that the fewest players know about. In typical blackjack where the dealer stands on a soft 17, you’ll usually split paired eights against an ace instead of surrendering like you would with other hard 16s. When the dealer hits on a soft 17, however, you’ll actually want to go ahead and surrender when you’re facing an ace. This is somewhat atypical, and it’s easy to forget to do.…

Online Casino Tournaments and Info

Participating in tournaments is one of the more popular activities in online casinos. It is the only form of online casino activity in which players are pitted against each other, thus fostering not only competition but also camaraderie. There are other attractions of online casino tournaments. Many of the tournaments are freerolls, which implies that is there is no buy-in. Though these offer small prizes they enable players to start a bankroll without investing their own funds. On the other hand there are promotional tournaments that have exotic cruises and other bumper prizes.

Online casino tournaments differ from online casino games in some major respects. In casino games the player is pitted against the house whereas in tournaments the players compete against each other. In games the objective is to end with more credits than the player started with. In tournaments the objective is to end with more credits than the other players, no matter if it is less than the starting credit. Each player starts the tournament with the same number of credits, plays the same casino game for the same period of time. At the end of the expired time the players’ closing credits are compared. Usually the designated numbers of the players with the highest closing credits share the money prize in a manner announced earlier.

Though the basic structure of tournaments is as described above there are many types of tournaments. Sit and go tournaments specify the minimum number of participating players. Players keep on registering for the tournament and as soon as the minimum number is reached the tournament starts. As against these are the scheduled tournaments. The starting times of these tournaments are announced well in advance and players are allowed to register till the starting time. The tournament commences at the starting time with the number of participants registered. Some online casinos provide for private tournaments. A player hosts these for family and friends. Such tournaments are not open to the other members of the casino. The promoter decides the parameters of the tournament.

Some of the online software providers who incorporate tournaments in their online casinos are Microgaming, Vegas Technology and Cryptologic. Microgaming offers tournaments only in slots games. Their tournaments featuring the slots Tomb Raider and Thunderstruck are extremely popular. The guaranteed prize pools vary from $50 to $200,000 and the buy-ins from free to $100. Cryptologic offers much fewer online …

Prescott Controversy

The Millennium Dome project could be facing a not-so-bright future following the controversy that the Deputy Prime Minister is now facing due to his meeting with Philip Anschutz, the Dome’s owner.

Blair’s second in command John Prescott has been in hot water because of the revelation of his vacation in the Colorado estate of the casino tycoon. The visit has been construed by many as a conflict of interest, and has placed Prescott in a compromising spot. Anschutz is a bidder for the license to operate Britain’s first super casino.

“John Prescott’s clumsy and ill-advised interventions have tainted Greenwich’s bid and my great fear is that they could actually damage our chances of winning. If we do win we want to win on the merits of the arguments,” Greenwich council’s opposition spokesman for culture Tory councilor Nigel Fletcher said.

The Dome is set to be transformed into the O2 and transformations are already taking place on the inside.

A spokesman from Anschutz’s company Anschutz Entertainment Group denied allegations that the company would retract the project if not picked by the Casino Advisory Panel by the year’s end.

He did confirm however, that the investment would be reduced, as phase two of the development, including a hotel and a theatre, are dependent on the casino.

However, he said: “We have bookings up to 2012, including the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships and the Olympics. We will announce soon the acts to appear from July 2007.”

Online Casino Advantages

Although land based casinos definitely have their advantages, they also have more than a few draw backs. In most of the countries in the world casino gambling is regulated so that casinos and other gambling facilities are located in specific, designated areas. This usually means that most people need to travel a long distance just to play their favorite casino games. Casino halls and poker rooms are also usually very loud and unpleasant. In most large casinos they tend top offer you many free cocktails and alcoholic drinks. Although it is very fun, it is hard to focus in your favorite casino game after ten Mai-Tai’s.

Online casinos on the other hand nave conquered the world in a storm. The amazing success of online gambling is really nothing to be surprised by, when you come to think about that. Online casinos offer you all the advantages of regular land based casinos and so much more. Thanks to online casinos anyone gambling lover can play all his favorite casino games, sitting in his bathrobe in front of his own home computer. You can play all the best casino games in your slippers. You no longer have to suffer from smoke, or on the other hand, you can smoke wherever and whenever you want.…

McCarthy Comes Out Fighting Against Wolves Fans

Mick McCarthy, manager of Premier League side Wolves, has unleashed a shock attack on the club’s supporters, labeling the fans who have spoken out about their lack of faith in McCarthy “mindless idiots”. The manager felt forced to speak out to the English sporting press after the weekend’s 2-2 draw against Premier League minnows Swansea at home. Ultimately the game made the headlines less for an admirable Wolves comeback from 2-0 down than for vocal chants from the home fans of “You’re getting sacked in the morning”.

McCarthy refused to let himself be drawn on the events that unfolded during the game straight after the final whistle in the televised interviews, but since then has clearly had time to think again, choosing to defend his role at Wolves with an admirable sense of passion. The Wolves manager stated that, as far as he’s concerned, since taking over the managerial hot seat he’s done a good job. However, it would seem that an unexpected run of five consecutive league defeats has piled the pressure on his shoulders.

The Wolves manager stated that some of the club’s supporters even appear to want their team to pick up a run of poor results so that they’re handed an excuse to moan and vent their anger at their beleaguered manager. McCarthy stated: “I think they have short memories. But let me clear that up as well. I’ve also had unbelievable support this week, from the players, everyone at the club”.

Although it is true to say that Wolves perhaps aren’t able to boast the greatest amount of individual talent in the whole of the English Premier League, even though they have more than a couple of players with real skill, including former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara and talented Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle, the “great spirit” and team unity that clearly runs throughout the squad could yet prove far more decisive and crucial than talent in the battle to secure Premier League this season.

There are some crucial games over the coming weeks appearing on the Wolves agenda, including a home fixture against another side struggling in the league, Wigan Athletic, taking place the weekend after this one, and McCarthy knows all too well that every section of the club’s support will need to get firmly behind his players if they are to stick around in the Premier League for another season or …

Mastering the Blackjack Surrender Game

If you’re like most blackjack players, then you’re the type of person who isn’t just content with being decent at a game. Instead, you want to learn everything that there is to learn about a strategy until you master it. With Blackjack Surrender by Playtech, you’ll have two main incentives for doing so. The first is that this is the blackjack game with the highest payout rate in any Playtech-powered online casino. Second, the strategies aren’t exceptionally in-depth and difficult when compared to some of the more convoluted titles out there.

The main feature of this game is that you have the ability to use a late surrender meaning that you can surrender on any number of cards. However, this is largely a trap for a lot of players who will surrender entirely too often. To clarify, you should only surrender if you have a hard 16 against a nine, ten or ace. You should also surrender with a hard 15 against a ten only. Do not surrender a hard 15 against an ace or a nine. Once you understand this aspect of the game, then you can move forward to the more intricate parts of strategy.

We’re going to cover a handful of different points to know about this game in no particular order. These points are how you should customize standard blackjack strategies specifically for this game. To begin with, you’ll double hard nines when facing a three, four, five or six. You’ll also double hard totals of ten when facing a nine or lower and hard totals of eleven when facing a ten or lower. For doubling with soft hands against a six or lower, you’ll double when your total plus twice the size of the dealer’s card is 23 or higher as long as you have an 18 or lower. Also, you’ll hit a soft 18 against a nine or ten instead of standing.

For paired hands, things are pretty standard with a couple of changes. First, you’re never going to split eights when you’re facing a ten or ace. However, you’re also not going to surrender. Instead, you will be hitting them. Along similar lines, you’ll only split fours if you’re against a five or six. Sevens should only be split against sevens or lower, and sixes should only be split against sixes or lower. Twos and threes are always split when facing any card …
